Iranian Standards

In 1304, the first codified movement related to standards in Iran began with the approval of the Law on Weights and Measures. In 1332, Iran national standards was established as a laboratory department under the supervision of the Trade Department, which worked in the field of imported, exports and domestic products.

In 1339, "Permission to establish the Iranian Standards Institute" was approved by the parliament in six articles, and now this organization is under the supervision of the Presidential Institution and operates under the name of the National Organization for Standardization.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and publish national (official) standards as the only official reference for this task in the country

• Research to standardize, improve the quality of domestically produced goods, and help improve production methods and industry efficiency

• Promoting national standards

• Monitoring the implementation of mandatory standards

• Quality control of exported goods subject to mandatory standards and prevention of the export of substandard goods in order to provide opportunities to compete with similar foreign goods and maintain international markets.

• Quality control of imported goods subject to mandatory standards in order to protect domestic consumers and producers and prevent the import of substandard goods

• Participate in the development of international standards as the official system of weights (SI), promote the international system of scale in the country and calibrate the measuring instruments.

• Testing and matching the sample of goods with the relevant standards, announcing specifications and comparative comments and issuing the necessary certificates.

• Continuous training of quality control officials of production units

• Identifying, compiling and publishing national (official) standards with the exception of pharmaceuticals

• Determining the characteristics of goods and comparing it with standards related to the exception of pharmaceuticals

• Implement the International System of Units and Calibrate Measures

• Stamping and determining the grade of precious metals

• Welding industry authority

• Awarding the National Quality Award of Iran

• Confirmation of domestic competence and foreign inspection companies and institutions (laboratories), laboratories, standard experts and certifiers of quality management systems and environmental management systems.
